Holes- movie & book.

In our literacy group we had to read the book “holes” we had about 3-4 weeks to read it in. After we had read the book, we had to write a review about what happened. Then after we had done the review and everything, we got to watch the movie. As we were watching the movie, we had to write down what things we recognised different about the book “holes” and the movie. After we watched the movie and wrote down what we thought was different between the two, we had to right our own opinion about if it’s better to read the book or watch the movie first.

I reckon it’s better to watch the movie first, then read the book.

Because, then, you’ve seen the movie, and  you know what happens. Then when you read the book, and they say pretty much the same thing, you can picture it in your head, and see there facial expressions. Also you can see what the difference things, because the book might be a bit different to the movie, usually it is. And some people would rather watch a movie than read a book..

Different things with the book and movie:

  • Stanley wasn’t over weight
  • they didn’t tell about Stanley’s school life and about him, they did in the book though
  • there was no fridge underneath the desk
  • the fields weren’t full of hay and cotton
  • they didn’t say Mr Sir’s read name in the book
  • there wasn’t heaps of tress

Plus more.

Friendship

In “skills4life” we have been watching a movie called cars. We have been watching this because for the last 2 weeks we have been talking about friendship and this movie has a lot to do with friendship in it.

It is about Lightning McQueen who is a very stuck up race car. He doesn’t have many friends, he only has people that are his fans. So they only like him for his fame. When he is being shipped across to California for his race, he is unexpectedly put into jail. He was held in a jail with Sheriff and Doc guarding him. The tow-truck takes a liking to Lightning and takes him for a  drive.

Lightning McQueen always takes his friendships for granted.

After he had stayed at Radiator Springs he had learned how to be a good friend and not to take friendships for granted. So now he has a lot of real friends and is appreciating a friendship for what it really is.

Things that I look for are:

  • Sense of humour
  • Can trust- tell everything to
  • like me for who I am
  • friendly
  • Can have fun with

And lots more.

Mary MacKillop.

Mary MacKillop: (Mary Helen MacKillop.)

Mary MacKillop started work at the age of 14 as a clerk in Melbourne and later as a teacher in PortlandMacKillop.

Born: 15th January, 1842. Place: Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia.

Death: 8th  August 1909 (aged 67) place: North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Her Miracles:

Back then about 100 years ago when schools were only open for rich people. Because they could afford it. Mary Mackillop opened up schools around the country to help all kids get a good education. She set up over 100 schools. Mostly called St Joseph’s.
Mary, together with Father, founded  a number of schools and welfare institutions throughout Australasia  with an emphasis on education for the poor.

Mary MacKillop is the only Australian to have been canonised. This is the first time they’ve made an Australian a saint. Mary will be recognised for he miracles. Catholics will celebrate this moment by going to churches and having parades.

Some people don’t think she should be a saint. Maybe they don’t believe in this sort of thing..?

How did she become a Saint?

The first step is for someone to examine the person whole life. They make sure they are/were close to god and did good work.  And Mary Mackillop did just that. And then there are about another 2 steps to go and they are more harder.

 Did she visit Tasmania.?

Mary Mackillop visited Tasmania 113 years ago, it was her one and only time she came to Tasmania.

When people travel around the country, they think that sharks are the biggest threat, but it’s the water that can be deadly.

Drowning in Australia is the highest it’s been for 7 years.

A lot of people drown in backyard pools, dam etc. It can happen anywhere and anytime. Four things that can lead you to drowning-  1st:  Lack of knoledge, 2nd: A pool that’s not properly fenced, 3rd: Supervision, 4th:  Survival skills so you know how to save yourself.

A lot of people that have drowned here are tourists and migrants. Surf life savers reckon that’s because they’re not used to our waters, like the strong waves and rips we have in some parts of Australia. Surf life savers are trying to reduce the amount of drownings by 50% by 2020.   There are also brochures, posters and online games to help you and  get the message across.

It’s not just the oceans we can drown in, it’s backyard pools too.   It can be dangerous depending on the conditions, especially night time. If you are ever in trouble don’t pannick, swim between the flags(Red & yellow flags), ask where the good places are to swim and check the weather before you go out and swim.

So when you go out for a swim next time, stay safe! (:

Feeling good about yourself.

I would describe me as a nice, happy, caring & friendly. I try and help my friends if they are going through a hard time. I am most of the time happy. I like hanging out with my friends, they are heaps good! I love them Couldn’t live without them.

My best friend describes me as a, funny, good friend, smart pfft, that’s not true!!!!! Sexy & special. I love her- ♥♥Mikayla♥♥

My Mum & Dad would describe me as, hypo, annoying, loud & caring person.

My teacher would describe me as a, loud, talks to much, sometimes doesn’t get worked finished on time & gets distracted and sometimes distracts others.. :/

My two best achievements would be: Getting into the SPSSA Southern Side  for Netball to represent Tasmania. & my other one would be…. & I don’t know what my second achievement would be.. When I think of it i’ll add it to this post.

Romance(:

I think that romance does help with advertising like things like, soap, deodorants etc.

Sometimes I think that if your having problems and things that it can escape you from the real life. But I guess that it depends if it’s a happy or a sad romance.  A lot of the things about romance and break-ups and stuff come from Hollywood are made up and some can probably be real.

Some people don’t like romance because they’re not into it. So it does depend on what sort of person you are. I don’t mind romance, I think  that it’s pretty good, but I like the happy romance not that sad romance.

So I do think that it does come down to what sort of person you are to if you like romance or not.

September Book Review

Willy Wonkas chocolate factory is going to be opened up for 5 lucky kids to vome and spend the day. But first you have to get a Golden Ticket. They only way you can get a Golden Ticket is by getting a block of Chocolate and opening it up and hoping that there is a golden ticket inside. Charley despretly wants to go.

Everyone in the shop runs towards Charley and offers his money for it and is in shock. The man at the counter says, no, leave the boys alone.

Charley runs home excited and tells his Pop i’ve won the last golden ticket!!!!!!!  Charley and all his family are very excited. Charley and his Pop go to the chocolate factory together. They are so happy. They had a really, really good time there.

Group Review.

Yesterday we did our presentations for our aboriginal work. Us in the class had to rank the group & the people in the group. We has to include, time, team confidence, effort, information & how present. The most you could get was something out of 100.

I would rank group 4 best because, they had a lot of good information, all put effort and did a heaps good job. Then I would rank group 3 the lowest because, no one  in there group did anything & didn’t have any information or anything. I’ve ranked the groups overall, group 4, group 2, group 1 & then group 3.

My team did OK I think. We had a fair bit if information and we were pretty confident. We could of improved by, planning, timing, spoke to each other & worked liked a group. I’d rate David the highest worker in the group because, he did the most. & then the lowest I’d rate either me or Isabella because we did the least in the group I reckon. But overall I think we went alright.

I went alright I reckon. I did do work but, I didn’t get to print it off because the printer wasn’t working. I had, a timeline, information & pictures but didn’t get to print them off..:( I would probably rank myself about 4th or 5th in my group because, I didn’t  get to do as much work as I said I would do. I would improve next time by using my time better.

Gold

Why is gold so precious?

It comes from an old English word meaning yellow.  Gold is valued for it’s shine.  At the moment,  it’s price is a record high. Gold is also used in computes, medicine, & everyday technology. Even used in cake decorations.

Gold was used to pain for things,  many years ago. Then turned into coin.  Even though we do not see people use gold as money anymore, it is still being traded.  They worked out that it’s quite a precious  metal  because, it’s rare & it’s lasted longer. Goldwill aslways  keep it’s value.
